How Towny Works

TownyAdvanced is the plugin that 1337clan uses for land protection. It allows players to create towns, invite others to join, claim land, and configure protections as you want! It’s really quite customizable. This page will go into more details later on.\

Roles

There are some default roles set up in Towny. Each with their own permissions and abilities.

Nomad

A Nomad is simply someone who is not in a town. They can choose to either start there own town, join an open town, or asked to be invited to a closed town.

Resident

A Resident is a default member of a town. They are able to purchase plots from their town that are for sale, and interact with plots that have resident permissions enabled. By default a resident can build, destroy, switch, and use items anywhere in their town.

The main commands a resident will use for Towny is /resident.

Mayor

A Mayor is the owner of a town and has the ability to manage the town and its residents. The are able to invite people to the town, set permissions of the town, etc…

King

Kings are the leaders of a nation. They have the ability to add/ remove towns from the nation as they desire.

Ranks

These are configured ranks able to be given to residents in a town or nation. A resident can be given more than one rank each with it’s own set of permissions.

Town Ranks

Helper

Helper is a Town rank that allows a resident to switch anywhere in the town. Even if it’s typically disabled for residents. Not super helpful, but it exists.

Sheriff

The Sheriff rank allows a resident to jail a resident. Not often used, but it exists.

Assistant

One of the more useful town ranks on the 1337clan server. This allows residents claim land, invite other players, manage plots, and promote residents to the Helper rank.

Nation Ranks

Helper

The Helper rank in a nation allows someone to add towns to the nation.

Assistant

The Assistant rank in a nation allows someone to add towns to the nation, declare allys/ enemies, and promote other members to the Helper rank.

Friends

A Friend is a Towny concept to allow people to let others contribute to their owned plots.

Land Ownership

Towns

Towns are simply a collection of residents with a mayor who runs the town. A town is able to claim plots of land, what protections those plots have, and configure what permissions are allowed in the town. These are typically managed by the mayor of the town.

Starting a Town

To start a town, simply find some area away from any other town, and run /town new {townname}. This will cost $250.00.

Growing a Town

A town grows by residents either being invited to the town, or by simply joining the town if it is open.

As towns get more residents, they are able to claim more land and some naming conventions changed. Specifically, the town name postfix changes and so does the mayor’s prefix. They change as follows:

  • 1 Resident:
    • 16 plots
    • 1 outpost
    • {town name} (Settlement)
    • Hermit {mayor name}
  • 2 Residents:
    • 32 plots
    • 1 outpost
    • {town name} (Hamlet)
    • Chief {mayor name}
  • 6 Residents:
    • 96 plots
    • 1 outpost
    • {town name} (Village)
    • Baron Von {mayor name}
  • 10 Residents
    • 160 plots
    • 2 outposts
    • {town name} (Town)
    • Viscount {mayor name}
  • 14 Residents
    • 224 plots
    • 2 outposts
    • {town name} (Large Town)
    • Count Von {mayor name}
  • 20 Residents
    • 320 plots
    • 3 outposts
    • {town name} (City)
    • Earl {mayor name}
  • 24 Residents
    • 384 plots
    • 3 outposts
    • {town name} (Large City)
    • Duke {mayor name}
  • 28 Residents
    • 448 plots
    • 4 outposts
    • {town name} (Metropolis)
    • Lord {mayor name}
Claiming Land

A mayor or assistant of a town can claim land for the town. These plots must be connected to already claimed plots. The number of plots a town can claim are limited based on the number of residents a town has, how big of a nation a town is in, and how many bonus plots were purchased. Claiming a plot costs $25.00 per plot claimed.

Outposts

Outposts allow towns to claim land away from their main town. The number of outposts allowed is based on the town/ nation size, similar to plot limits. Claiming an outpost costs $500.00.

Protections

The main protections offered by a town are:

  • Explosions (default off): /town toggle explosion.
  • Firespread (default off): /town toggle fire.
  • Mob Spawns (default off): /town toggle mobs.
  • PvP (default off): /town toggle pvp.
Permissions

There are 4 main permission types in Towny:

  • Build - Allows building in the town.
  • Destroy - Allows destroy in the town.
  • Switch - Allows switching in the town.
  • Item - Allows item use in the town.

These permission types are configured for town-owned plots and resident-owned plots.

For town-owned plots, there are 4 permission groups:

  • Resident - Residents of the town.
  • Nation - Players in your nation.
  • Ally - Players in towns allied with your nation.
  • Outsider - Players not part of your town, nation, or nation’s ally’s.

For resident-owned plots, there are also 4 permission groups:

  • Friend - Players on your friend list.
  • Town - Players in your town.
  • Ally - Players in your nation and your nation’s allys.
  • Outsider - Players not part of your town, nation, or nation’s ally’s.

Nations

A Nation is a collection of towns with one town as the capital of that nation. The mayor of that town is also the king of the nation. The main benefits of a nation are increased plot limits and increased outpost limits. These are based on the number of residents in a nation.

Starting a Nation

To start a nation, simply run /nation new {nationame}. This will cost $1000.00.

Growing a Nation

A nation grows by towns either being invited to the nation, or by simply joining the nation if it is open.

As nations get more residents, they are able to claim more land and some naming conventions changed. Specifically, the nation name prefix and postfix changes and so does the mayor’s prefix. They change as follows:

  • 1 Resident:
    • 10 bonus plots
    • 0 bonus outposts
    • Land of {nation name} (Nation)
    • Leader {king name}
  • 10 Residents:
    • 20 bonus plots
    • 1 bonus outpost
    • Federation of {nation name} (Nation)
    • Count {king name}
  • 20 Residents:
    • 40 bonus plots
    • 2 bonus outposts
    • Dominion of {nation name} (Nation)
    • Duke {king name}
  • 30 Residents:
    • 60 bonus plots
    • 3 bonus outposts
    • Kingdom of {nation name} (Nation)
    • King {king name}
  • 40 Residents:
    • 100 bonus plots
    • 4 bonus outposts
    • The {nation name} Empire
    • Emporer {king name}
  • 60 Residents:
    • 140 bonus plots
    • 5 bonus outposts
    • The {nation name} Realm
    • God Emporer {king name}
Alliances

Alliances are ways for nations to be able to help each other on plots (assuming the plots perm line allows for allies to contribute).

To add an ally, simply run /nation ally add {nation}.

To remove an ally, simply run /nation ally remove {nation}.

Plot

Plots are chunks of land owned by a town. Each plot is 32x32 and fit around a group of chunks. They take on a town’s default protections/ permissions, but can be overriden for a specific plot. For example you could have a single plot be an arena with PvP enabled, while the rest of the town has PvP disabled. In addition there are other plot types that have special permissions/ abilities associated to them.

Plot Types

There are some special plot types allowed by Towny. They are set using plot set {plot type} The main ones are as follows:

  • Default plots: Basic claimed plot. No special permissions/ protections
  • Arena plots: Plots with PvP enabled, friendly-fire damage enabled, and health regen disabled.
  • Embasssy plots: Plots that can be purchased by any player even if they aren’t in the town. The original town still owns the plot and can take it back at any time.
  • Farm Plots:
    • Allows players to only build/ destroy the following blocks:
      • BAMBOO,BAMBOO_SAPLING,JUNGLE_LOG,JUNGLE_SAPLING,JUNGLE_LEAVES,OAK_LOG,OAK_SAPLING,OAK_LEAVES,BIRCH_LOG,BIRCH_SAPLING,BIRCH_LEAVES,ACACIA_LOG,ACACIA_SAPLING,ACACIA_LEAVES,DARK_OAK_LOG,DARK_OAK_SAPLING,DARK_OAK_LEAVES,SPRUCE_LOG,SPRUCE_SAPLING,SPRUCE_LEAVES,BEETROOTS,COCOA,CHORUS_PLANT,CHORUS_FLOWER,SWEET_BERRY_BUSH,KELP,SEAGRASS,TALL_SEAGRASS,GRASS,TALL_GRASS,FERN,LARGE_FERN,CARROTS,WHEAT,POTATOES,PUMPKIN,PUMPKIN_STEM,ATTACHED_PUMPKIN_STEM,NETHER_WART,COCOA,VINE,MELON,MELON_STEM,ATTACHED_MELON_STEM,SUGAR_CANE,CACTUS,ALLIUM,AZURE_BLUET,BLUE_ORCHID,CORNFLOWER,DANDELION,LILAC,LILY_OF_THE_VALLEY,ORANGE_TULIP,OXEYE_DAISY,PEONY,PINK_TULIP,POPPY,RED_TULIP,ROSE_BUSH,SUNFLOWER,WHITE_TULIP,WITHER_ROSE
    • Allows players to kill the following animals:
      • PIG,COW,CHICKEN,SHEEP,MOOSHROOM,RABBIT
  • Jail Plots: Plots specificed to be used as jails.
Plot Groups

Plot groups allow plots to be grouped together (surprising right?). This is done by running /plot group add {group name}. A plot can only be part of one group at a time. This allows you to run all standard /plot set commands (for the most part) except with /plot group set.
